Oliver Smith is Operations Director at EcoVigour, responsible for the delivery of complex environmental and infrastructure works across the business.

He leads from the front, working closely with project teams to ensure schemes are planned properly, resourced correctly, and delivered safely in challenging environments. His focus is on building systems, capability and accountability so EcoVigour can take on work that others avoid or struggle to deliver.

Oliver founded EcoVigour in 2007 and has grown the business around a delivery-first model, combining engineering, ecology and specialist contracting into one accountable team.

His background combines environmental management with practical contracting experience. He holds a BA (Hons) in Environmental Management from the University of Leeds, an MSc in Sustainability, Planning and Environmental Policy from Cardiff University, and a PgCert in Sustainable Leadership from Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Growing up on a family farm, and now running a regenerative farming and food production business alongside EcoVigour, grounds his approach in land management, production systems and long-term thinking. That practical perspective carries through into how EcoVigour plans and delivers its work.

Julian Gregory is Technical Director at EcoVigour, bringing extensive experience in environmental consultancy, ecological assessment, and project delivery. He leads the technical direction of the business, ensuring all work is delivered to a high standard and in line with current legislation, policy, and best practice.

Julian has worked in the field of environmental management, within the construction sector for more than 25 years and has a strong track record of supporting a wide range of development projects, providing clear, pragmatic advice to help clients navigate planning and environmental constraints. His expertise spans ecological surveys, impact assessment, and environmental management, with a particular focus on delivering proportionate, solution-led outcomes.

Julian has taken the Environmental Coordinator role for several large infrastructure projects, managing all environmental functions across the projects.

In his role at EcoVigour, Julian oversees project delivery, supports clients through complex regulatory processes, and ensures that technical outputs are robust, defensible, and aligned with client objectives. He is committed to maintaining high professional standards and delivering practical, commercially aware solutions that enable sustainable development.

Julian is supported by EcoVigour’s Senior Management Team comprised of Senior Consultants and Principal Ecologists.

Dan oversees EcoVigour’s civil engineering and environmental contracts, managing complex schemes from pre-construction through to successful delivery. He specialises in projects operating within live or sensitive environments, including land remediation, ecological works, drainage, and infrastructure support.

With over a decade of experience in the civil engineering sector, Dan has a strong track record of delivering major infrastructure projects. Before joining EcoVigour, he worked with leading Tier 1 contractors—including Skanska, Costain, and Alun Griffiths—on high-profile schemes such as HS2 enabling works and the A465 Heads of the Valleys project.

Day-to-day, Dan ensures that projects are commercially viable, operationally organised, and delivered safely. He takes a highly proactive approach to planning, identifying risks early and coordinating resources to prevent operational issues before they arise. Clients value his straightforward communication, practical problem-solving, and unwavering focus on delivering work efficiently without compromising on safety or quality.

Tom Lord is Arboricultural Contracts Manager at EcoVigour, leading the delivery of arboricultural operations across a wide range of infrastructure, local authority, and environmental projects.

With more than 30 years’ experience in the arboricultural industry and a strong agricultural background, Tom oversees projects ranging from vegetation clearance and mechanised site operations through to complex tree removals and emergency call-outs. He works closely with clients, site teams, and supervisors to ensure projects are planned properly, resourced correctly, and delivered safely and efficiently in live environments.

Tom is heavily involved in operational planning, including site inspections, programming, health and safety coordination, resource allocation, and client liaison. His practical experience and hands-on approach allow him to identify potential issues early and adapt quickly to changing site conditions, particularly on high-risk or time-critical projects.

Prior to joining EcoVigour, Tom ran his own arboricultural business and has worked across all levels of operational delivery within the sector. He holds all relevant chainsaw and arboricultural machinery qualifications, along with First Aid certification.

Emma Humphreys is Compliance and Governance Manager at EcoVigour, responsible for overseeing the systems, processes, and governance frameworks that support safe, compliant, and efficient project delivery across the business.

Her role includes managing company management systems, maintaining accreditations including RISQS, UVDB, Constructionline and CHAS, coordinating internal audits, and ensuring compliance processes remain practical and aligned with operational delivery. Emma works closely with both office and site teams to make sure projects are supported by clear systems, strong communication, and consistent standards without creating unnecessary administration or delays on site.

Alongside governance and compliance, Emma also supports the wider operational and office functions of the business, including subcontractor management, training records, onboarding, vehicle and plant systems, financial administration, and day-to-day operational coordination.

Emma holds NEBOSH and internal auditing qualifications and has previous experience in office management roles. She is known for her organised, proactive approach and her ability to build robust systems that support both operational teams and client requirements across complex projects and live environments.

Bill Rainsley is Landscape and Green Infrastructure Manager at EcoVigour, responsible for the delivery of landscaping, grounds maintenance, and environmental improvement works across a range of infrastructure and public sector projects.

He works closely with clients, operational teams, and supply chains to coordinate projects from planning through to delivery, managing programming, resource allocation, health and safety, commercial awareness, and day-to-day operational performance. His work regularly supports utility providers, local authorities, and government bodies, with a focus on practical, solution-led delivery in live environments.

Bill has worked within land-based industries and environmental management for most of his career, beginning in grounds maintenance and progressing through operational and regional management roles across large-scale utility and public sector contracts throughout the UK. His experience spans all levels of operational delivery, from hands-on site work through to department management and strategic planning.

He is known for his straightforward, pragmatic approach and his ability to adapt delivery strategies to real-world site conditions, balancing programme, commercial pressures, environmental considerations, and client expectations.

Will Whittaker is Contracts Manager at EcoVigour, specialising in environmental contracting, habitat delivery, and mechanised operations across infrastructure and environmentally sensitive sites.

Day-to-day, Will manages live sites, coordinating labour, plant, and operational delivery to ensure projects run safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements. His role includes project planning, RAMS preparation, site coordination, client liaison, and problem solving in live operational environments. He also supports tendering and methodology development for more technically challenging schemes.

Will’s background spans forestry, amenity, agricultural, and environmental contracting roles, progressing from hands-on operational work through to supervisory, principal contractor, and project management positions. He has also been involved in the implementation of large-scale habitat creation and biodiversity enhancement schemes, helping deliver practical environmental outcomes on complex sites.

That practical experience shapes his approach to delivery, keeping projects realistic, straightforward, and operationally effective.

Nick Needham is Geo-Environmental Manager at EcoVigour, responsible for planning and delivering environmental and civil engineering works across a range of complex and constrained sites.

Day-to-day, Nick coordinates site teams, subcontractors, plant, logistics, and site access requirements, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with programme requirements. His role includes pre-start planning, RAMS implementation, compliance with CDM and health and safety standards, and maintaining operational control across live environments.

Nick has around 10 years’ experience within the geo-environmental and construction sectors, progressing from geo-environmental consultancy and site investigation roles through to site supervision, contracts supervision, and operational management. His background combines technical environmental understanding with practical site delivery experience, particularly within geotechnical, habitat, and infrastructure-related projects.

His project experience includes retaining structures, habitat-based works, civil engineering within water and land environments, and technically challenging projects in constrained locations. Clients value his practical approach to problem solving, ability to deal with issues quickly on site, and strong understanding of both technical requirements and operational delivery.

Nick holds a BSc in Environmental Science and qualifications including IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS, SEATS, and MCIWEM working towards Chartered Water and Environmental Manager status.

Cai Jones is Plant Manager at EcoVigour, responsible for overseeing the company’s fleet, workshop operations, and specialist plant support functions across the business.

His role is focused on ensuring vehicles, machinery, and operational equipment are maintained, compliant, and available to support project delivery across a wide range of environmental and infrastructure works. Day-to-day, Cai manages servicing, repairs, inspections, workshop operations, defect reporting systems, and maintenance scheduling, helping minimise downtime and maintain operational reliability across the fleet.

With more than 10 years’ experience within the industry, including previous roles with a leading UK manufacturer, Cai brings extensive knowledge of heavy plant, commercial vehicles, workshop systems, and field-based engineering support. His practical, solution-led approach is particularly valuable on complex or remote projects where specialist plant availability and rapid fault response are critical to maintaining programme and productivity.

Cai also plays a key role in developing operational systems across the business, including proactive maintenance scheduling, QR-based equipment support systems, compliance inspections, and mobile breakdown response capability. These systems help EcoVigour maintain high operational standards while supporting efficient project delivery in live environments.
