Survey methodology and seasonal constraints
Water vole surveys are seasonal and are most effective when undertaken during periods of peak activity:
- Optimal survey period: April to September
- Best survey conditions: May and June, when vegetation and field signs are most visible
- Surveys outside this period may be less reliable due to reduced activity or poor visibility of field signs
- Survey effort and methodology are tailored to the site and project requirements to ensure robust and defensible results.
